Mike performed a solo set to a packed house at Atlas Coffee. Not having Dave or Todd by his side was terrifying but none the less satisfying as Mike dug up some old tunes he loves and the Cab most likely would never play.
- Joyce Montano
Kentucky Derby Day AND Michael Montano's birthday. both events were spectacular but Michael's was way cooler.
The new lineup is getting stronger every gig. We played a BUNCH of new material at this gig and it went over great. Of course we still ripped through many of our more familiar tunes. Thank you to our fans and especially to Todd's private fan club for joining.
I'm still not sure I can believe what everyone was telling me about our new sound. I'm thinking we suck, because I'm always terrified when we introduce new songs and new arrangments to old songs. Instead I heard a bunch of compliments about how much more energetic and alive we're sounding. I guess that's what terror does for a band. Who knew?
Great way to end 2023 - at our favorite venue with our fans
Great night but starting to feel the pain of loss. Ron announced he is leaving the band. We only have one more gig scheduled right now. What will the future hold?
Last night on the patio. We are so honored to have so many loyal fans show up. We love you.
Last night on the grass until next spring. A bit nervous about the rain that never came. Until next season keep checking our calendar. We'll keep it updated with the latest gigs as they come in. Thank you. We mean it. Thank you.
Always a pleasure, but especially so because Amber and Lachlan (Ron's daughter and grandson from England) flew all the way across the ocean to hear us (and see the rest of the family. I also got a bit of time to chat with Carolyn and Tom Milheiser who regularily stop my to cheer us on. And what would the night be without the Salazar's stirring up the pot. thanks to Halfpenney for giving us such a warm, welcoming environment to play in.
What a beautiful evening. The clouds towering over the amazing green links of the course behind us and the full house eating, drinking, and having a spectaular time in front of us on the patio and the grass was a Colorado band dream come true. Maybe we'll see you at the next one on August 5th.
Love gettting back to South Suburban Golf. Standing room only. Well some people came with lawn chairs. What a great night. The rain stayed far away for this beautiful concert outside the clubhouse. It was fun to see fans and introduce them to this welcoming facility. The course looked fabulous and the staff worked hard to make everyone happy. Dave brought his big boy bass (his upright acoustic) to play on a group of select songs.
We dont normally play this far north (144th and Sheridan) but Ron who lives on that end of town was happy to see a few of his family come see us along with the great HOA crowd turnout.
Open to the public for an afternoon delight on the patio. So fun. Friends from all over, including as far away as Panama showed up. It was a whole lot of fun. (An no rain.)
Delightful group to perform for. So open and welcoming.
We (and by that I mean everyone in the pub) celebrated my birthday a day late. GREAT FUN. ... and we sounded pretty darn good as well. You just can't beat the Halfpenny for a great venue.
Another splendid affair! Thanks to everyone who came out.
Great gig! Simply fun and I think we sounded as good as we ever have.
This was a new venue for us. Great beer pub. Lots of beers. Clean. Tons of room inside and out. You can see the whole front range from the patio. Food truck. We hope to get invited back soon and often.
Boy howdy! Every table on the expanding patio was full. Every table inside was full (with the windows in-between open all the way. Service staff was exceptional. We had a great time, as did the crowd. Perfect gig!
Super fun night. We invited my cousin Jim to sit in with us and sing a tune from Josh Turner. They both have those wonderfully resonant low baritone voices. We couldn't have covered the tune without that voice. They crowd went wild.
Most brew pubs are small, cramped places. This one is not. Plenty of room, clean, new, inviting. A whole wall of different brews on tap and one more thing most brew pubs don't offer, in-house food, not food truck service. It was a pleasure to play here.
A great start to a summer of concerts for the Town of Bennett and our second year at the event. The covered, raised stage they completed for this season was a great improvement with both grass and bleacher seating. Three food trucks made sure no one went hungry and the sunset was amazing. We certainly hope to get invited back again next years.
Our favorite venue. Great people. Great hours. Great acoustics. Great stage. No hassle. Rotating food truck.
It is always our honor and delight to play for this group of dedicated teachers each year and help them celebrate the end of another taxing and yet joyful year of guding and educating youth in Centennial. They are truly amazing people.
This was our first performance at Max Taps. Very busy pub with the benefit for some of serving more than just beer. Several areas to enjoy, which isolates the band but a benefit to those who prefer listening to piped in music. Opening the garage doors allowed those sitting outside to enjoy the band so that was a plus for us. TVs abound. A little difficult competeing with the AVs playoff dreams but the crowd applauded for us and cheered for them.
Another private birthday party. This one outside by the swimming pool, with an incredible view of the front range. Courtney with Radix is an amazing party planner.
In Sonja's own words: "Call us a Cab was absolutely fantastic! We hired them to play at my mom’s birthday party and they were absolutely a huge hit! Great music and even better people. Thanks Mike, Ron and Dave for helping us make a memorable evening!"
6th Anniversary Celebration for Halfpenny was jam-packed and a huge amount of fun. Of course a bunch of people showed up to sing happy birthday to me. Julie gave me give me a cupcake with a candle and Todd bought me a box of my favorite girlscout cookies from an adorable girlscout who was set up on one table. You see, that's the thing about Halfpenny Brewing, it's just a community of great people looking out for each other while they enjoy the best finely crafted brews in town.
Ho ho ho. Merry Christmas. I was nervous about taking a gig the week before Christmas thinking no one would come out. I was wrong. 30 minutes before we were to start there were only 3 tables filled. 15 minutes after were started every table was full. Thank you Santa. AND THANK YOU to the Halfpenny and all our loyal fans. See you back here in February.
Another memorable event at a great venue. SRO crowd, full of love (and a few beers). We can't wait for a repeat next month.
This is the way to have a neighborhood party. Begin with a great leader on your block. Hire a band that plays every song you wanted to hear pulled right from their website in advance of the party. Gather all your neighbors in the cul-de-sac and encourage them to wear lederhosen and Bavarian Oktoberfest Costumes because it is Oktoberst aftera all. Roll out a BBQ grill or two and numerous coolers full of beverages. Set out tables and chairs under tents. Let the kids ride their bikes, scooters, skateboards around. Toss frisbees. Have beer pong and arm wrestling competions. Enjoy.
Standing Room Only (not to scare anyone off ... more tables and chairs appeared as the crowd enlarged.) This place just keeps getting better.
This was the highlight of our summer concerts. The crowd was singing along to everything. The attendance was amazing, undoubtedly because the magnanimous and highly organized lady, "Barbara," who runs the events for this HOA is outstanding. Even though the weather was perfect, we always ask in advance for a tent if playing outside. Not only in case of rain or hail, but the summer sun can make perfroming miserable. That "ask" means we always get the standard 10x10 tradeshow tent. The thing is, we really need a 12 foot wide tent to fully fit. Getting back to Barbara's talent, she hired a 20 piece orchestra for their August event. So she rented a large 10x20 tent to accomodate that large group and it worked out so well, she got the same size tent again for us.
Lovely, inviting group to play for every time. Great acoustics in this room, "The Hub", which means we don't even need to bring monitors. Every sound is heard, which is a blessing. Harmonies blend so much tighter when you can hear every nuance.
There is nothing better than friends gathering in a backyard, celebrating the end of summer. The party's hosts were gracious, the food and drink plentiful, and a great time was had by all.
What a wonderful community. Everyone was so kind. Just sitting out on the grass as the sun set with a soft breeze blowing, we played for two hours straight without a break. We didn't need or want one we were having so much fun. Certainly hope to be part of this concert series again next year.
A friendly gathering of family and colleagues in the park. Music, food beverages and face painting and balloons for the kids. This is what Colorado is all about.
This was our first performance at the 2nd blue spruce location. I must say it is impressive. Most brew pubs are small and cramped for space, but not this place. And of course the staff and patrons are just as nice as ever.
What a fabulous time is was to be back at the Halfpenny. Tons of old friends came and we met a few new ones. It was so nice to see the tables full again.
It took us a year to get this job under our belt. We were hired for Trailside's annual picnic last summer, but Covid hit and doomed everyone's plans. So they put our phone number away and called us when Covid restrictions started to ease this year. We were more than happy to rebook the event. With the afternoon came the rain, although it just sort of drizzled. That kept a few people away, but as the event wore on, the rain subsided and neighbors opened their front doors and joined each other to celebrate the end of Covid. It felt good.
After a year like this, teachers deserve a standing ovation and at least a couple of hours to gather without children in sight and relax, preferably with a beverage in hand and some good live music in the background. We volunteered to say "thank you - we appreciate you," after Covid destroyed our schedule during the last year by offering to play our first gig back for free. The teacher who are vastly underpaid for what they do were having none of that nonsense and improvised a tip jar and filled it up. What else can we say? Except "THANK YOU!"
WOW! What a night. this was a very hopping spot last night. Huge standing room only crowd. Ton's of fans and friends showed up. The beer was outstanding as always. A couple of sweet your girls knew what the dance floor was meant for and they were so cute that soon all the soccer moms banded together to fill up the dance floor too. We played all the knew songs we learned in the last two months, along with a few requests and some of our best and most popular pieces. You shoulda been there. Maybe you will next time.
Hopefully promises will be fulfilled, because we are truly looking forward to making this an annual event. Wonderful community. Great evening had by all. Potluck dinner. Music outside with a fantastic susnet as a backdrop and then a beautiful night.
The final night of "Music On The Mesa" included lobster and more seafood with the buffet. Unfortunately it ws a rainy evening so we had to setup inside instead of on the patio with it's amazing view of the table top mesas and downtown Denver. The venue requires a low volume level and we actually love that. We can hear each other so well that balancing volume is easy and makes our music sound exceptional. Ron and both commented that we wish we had brought our recorders to capture the moment in time.
Labor Day Friday - Last gig at Lone Tree for this year. Crowd size was down a bit because of the holiday weekend, but those in attendance were super nice. Management really appreciated us filling in for a last minute cancellation from another band.
Always a treat to play on the patio at this course.
So wonderful to be playing for these great folks. I think we enjoy it more than they do - and they really do. Plus we got an ice cream sundae. Yeah!
Full disclosure: Leslie is Mike's daughter. She is also one of our favorite fans, because she is always the first one on the dance floor, which gets everyone else moving. This party was a back-to-school celebration for her fellow teachers and neighbors, and just like Leslie, it was a bright light shining in the dark for everyone who loves her genuine love.
Standing room only, once again. And just like last time everyone was into it. "It" being, having fun. We are truly blessed to have so many fans come out to see us everytime we play this great venue. "Thank you all."
What a nice birthday party Georgia's wonderful parents orchestrated for her. Playing outdoors in Colorado is always glorious, except when it rains, and this Saturday there wasn't even a hint of rain. Just great kids, loving relatives and "The Cab" entertaining everyone.
Incredible! Full House and then some. The patio was overflowing. The lounge was full. They opened the windows letting all that air conditioning flow outside so the crowd inside could hear us. Everyone had a GREAT time.
Wonderful event for a worthy cause. They raised $5,200 9more than last year's event. It was great fun to see all the wonderful classic cars as well.
We got to play out on the balcony - on the 23rd floor! You can see all of Denver south of 14th Street.
What a delight it was to perform for these folks. A couple hundred gathered in the community rec center to hear us perform. Tables were full and we had a large stage. since we didn't have to compete with bar noise or TV's everyone (including us) were able to interact. Applause was readily given and much appreciated. We dearly hope this becomes a recurring event for us.
Always a nice time playing on the patio. The rain stayed away and the wind didn't pick up. We met some new folks who were invited by their neighbors who urged them to come see us. As always Julie and Leslie couldn't stop dancing and they got some of the young kids to join them.
A standing ovation. Not something a small combo playing for a group of 40 in a neighborhood recreation center expects. We were truly humbled and honored by this gracious group. Generally our gigs a fun, but we are always competing with food, beverage and lots of conversation. After everyone at at this potluck we began. This really was a concert with an attentive audience. A side note: for oour final song we asked the group to choose between "The City Of New Orleans" or "Take Me Home Country Roads" for our final song. In true Colorado form, John Denver won.
It always amazes me when teenagers ask their parents to hire us for their graduation parties. I should be used to it by now, since it seems to be happening frequently for graduations and birthdays. At this event the teenagers all hung out around the band while the parents retreated a discreet distance. Everyone enjoyed the music. In fact, all the neighbors decided that they are going to have to make it an annual summer tradition with "Call Us A Cab" as the recurring entertainment.
This event was due to the recent shooting at the Highlands Ranch STEM school, so it was a bit somber, but wonderful dedication to the promote the program.
Loading docks at most downtown hotels are always a challenge. Still once you find the right elevator and the right floor and the right room, the events always appear seamless to the audience, which is how it should be. NCRA is based in Washing DC and has @6,000 members. 300 were on site for this annual conference. Even though most were women, as we all know, women love to dance - and they did. I can't speak highly enough about our contact person, Leah, who was amazing.
Bit of a rainy day so we played inside instead of the patio. Not an ideal environment since many of the diners could see us due to the fireplace. Still we received a numbe of accolades.
4 Mile House Historic Park is a wonderful venue for this type of event. Although truth be told, it was difficult to hear ourselves over the background noise of the guests talking. That is just the way it goes sometimes when you are playing private events in rooms you have never played before. We kept our volume down and they all graciously told us that we were enjoyed by every guest.
Birthday parties are always fun, especially surprise parties. the guest of honor opened the door to everyone shouting "Happy Birthday" and we launched into our cool swing version of Birthday by The Beatles. Nice clubhouse for the party. Plenty to eat and drink. The host invited us to play because we played for "her" suprise birthday party a couple of years ago. Nice to know we weren't forgotten.
It is always a thrill to be a part of television. The people at the station from Joan Barrett, the Vice President/General Manager to Marcus Wilkerson, the Director of Sales, to our point person, Jeremy Geiser, the Digital Sales Manager are all so wonderful to work with. This was a big rollout event for the new million dollar studio. Clients of the station were given private tours and while everyone waited for their turn, they got to listen to us, snack, and get their caricature drawn.
This is probably the finest brew pub for an act like ours to play in. An actual stage area. Great management. Family friendly. We are looking forward to coming back - soon and often.
Every Posinelli office across the country came together for a spectacular office party. Great food at a great office 23 floors up overlooking Denver. Can't wait to get invited back when it's a bit warmer so we can play on their patio!
Festive event held at a wonderful venue in Longmont. For once it was a long drive for me and a short one for Ron. He deserves a break once in a while.
Sometimes at a sports bar, the playoff games are just more important than the band. We understand that. None the less, we still got plenty of applause if not continuous rap attention.
This was our first time at this venue, but we were assured it won't be our last by the management. Nice to have a stage area at a brew pub instead of just moving some tables around on the floor to make one. This is a fun and very packed venue. Plus the beer selection and food truck fare was exceptional.
Nice playing for these great folks during their annual dinner and silent auction to raise money for 3 great causes. A bonus for Mike was that Ron broke a string (first time in over 5 years) but it broke just as we wer starting a song early in the second set, so Mike got to do a solo performance of "April Come She Will" by Simon and Garfunkel while he changed it. Mike also bid on and won one of the silent auction items, so her went home a happy (camper) rocker.
Last Sunday on the patio this year. The weather cooperated. Beautiful afternoon. Very appreciative crowd. What a way to end the summer!
Love the people and the management at this place, but the acoustics always make it hard to play up to your best. Nothing to absorb the sound, so the noise (and music) levels are always high and the reflections just keep on bouncing.
Perfect afternoon with a perfect view. We played out on the patio overlooking the course to a full house, both outdoors and seating inside next to the patio. Looking forward to doing this one again summer.
What a delightful event. It was our honor to donate our time to these wonderful folks. Outside on the patio by a garden and waterfall, members, staff and guests of the Center enjoy lunch and ice cream while we entertained. There was a whole lot of singing along and foot tapping going, on as well as some dancing. Wheelchairs and walkers can't keep you down when the beat and the tunes bring back pleasant memories.
On the patio. Started out as a nice evening, but right as we were starting our last set, it started to sprinkle. We put the guitars in their cases and waited to see whether it would materialize. It didn't but by then the crowd had all went inside to take advantage of everything else this venue offers, so we got off early.
Thankfully the weathermen and women were wrong. No rain. Yeah! Just a great late afternoon on the Lone Tree patio. A more subdued but still appreciative crowd than the night before.
Fun night. The crowd was very responsive, even bursting into applause when a few solos ended, one of which was on my melodica solo in place of billy Joels sax on "Still Rock and Roll To Me." I sure wasn't expecting that. Dave was wearing his "Freak Out" T-Shirt and was surprised when an audience member in his mid 30's said they liked his shirt as he walked by. Dave asked if they knew was the shirt represented. Dave was astounded when the guy said the "Frank Zappa," one of Dave's rock heroes. Gabby was in attendance. the last time we saw her she requested we learn "I Love A Rainy Night." We did and we played it to her profound enjoyment. It never hurts to ask us.
What a wonderful gig. Lots of reservations made after word spread about our last performance. The place was full and happy. The sunset off the patio was splendid. An friend of ours, Jillian, sat in on a couple of tunes and graced the audience with her tasty, inspired vocals. And even though I was struggling a bit as I get over a cold I caught on my Alaska vacation, I didn't get any weird 'what are you singing?' looks from Ron or Dave. Love the manager, Pam and the club. Looking forward to next summer already.
Can't praise Pam Morris (the club manager) enough. She makes this a special place for her members, all guests, and the band. Beautiful weather. Great view from the patio and I have to say the BBQ wings were the BEST I've ever had. We were reunited with a long-time friend, Jillian Schell, who had moved to Florida, but couldn't shake those Colorado roots. Several other friends also turned out. Thanks
Windy day and there was a little confusion at the start, but there was a nice crowd on the patio. Dave tried to kill himself by choking on a Polish dog during our break as he was hurrying to get back on stage. Luckily he's still with us and applause (for the music, not his choking) cures most ills.
Well we are usually on the patio at Lone Tree, but it was a rainy day, so we moved inside to the lounge. That turned out be a pleasant surprise because it seemed more intimate and everyone had a great time. Simple things like interacting with the crowd were enhanced. For example we often ask if Amy is in the crowd so we can dedicate the song Amy to her. there wasn't so we picked a willing particpant and asked her name. It was Angie, so it was a no-brainer for us to sing "Angie what you wanna do. I think I could stay with you for a while maybe longer if I do." - and listen to her laugh at the change.
What fun! On the 3rd floor balcony overlooking Speer Boulevard. Watching the rain threaten but never release more than a few drops. Bonus: getting to meet some of those wonderful on-air personalities, but even better - all the super nice folks behind the scenes. Plus on a weekday we were home early. GREAT day!
First event of the summer at Lone Tree. This was golf Demo Day, so a ton of people getting a chance to try new clubs etc. They also had plenty of time to enjoy a brew and a bite while they listened to us. Personally I got to try out a brand new acoustic guitar modeler and effects pedal. the wife said it was good and bad. Good in that it sounds fabulous and my guitar shines. Bad in that any mistake I make is pretty obvious. Now I'm scared. I'm gonna have to put in a few more minutes of insurance practice before each gig.
Well we've added a fourth golf club to our summer rotation. Unlike the other courses, this is a private club. We were supposed to play on the patio that overlooks the course, but sadly mother nature objected with a rain storm, so we moved inside. Every table was full all night and an intimate atmosphere prevailed.
This was our first performance here, but it won't be our last. Talk about a fun venue. In addition to bowling and arcade, Jackson’s Sports Grill is now at Celebrity Lanes, and the outdoor patio where we play is exceptional with a bar, games, and comfotable sitting. Everyone knows that music on the patio is what Colorado is famous for, so come join us at our next performance her on August 4th. Check out their website at http://celebritylanes.com/.
Joining us tonight were the Colorado Freeze, a women's professional football team for women 18 years of age or older. The Freeze believe in giving back to the community. Call Us A Cab encourages readers of this post to visit http://www.coloradofreeze.com and find out more about this vibrant organization.
Another good night at Blue Spruce.
Huge crowd. Lots of fun. It doesn't get much better than this. Shout out to the teachers from Isaac Newton Middle School, my daughter Leslie among them.
What a blast! By the time we started, there was a 45 minute wait for a table. So standing room only crowded. We are not know as a dance band, but that didn't stop anyone from celebrating St. Patrick's Day with wild gyrations. May I just take a moment and say what an exceptional person, Steve, the owner of NST is. He is constantly circling the place, making sure everyone is happy. He automatically knows when to cut the volume on the overhead music when we hit the stage, without being asked. Plus he respects the entertainment as much as he loves his patrons. He had a profitable night, so he passed along a bit of the profit to us as a bonus. In my 50 years of experience, that is a very rare occurance. Social gigs, like weddings, sure, but club owners not so much.
I'm not sure what's happening at Lincoln Station. The place was only 1/3 to 1/2 full, but 90% of those attendees were friends of the band, that wouldn't have been there if we werent playing. It's a nice venue, but from our perspective they don't have a crowd of their own, which means the band gets dinged (not rehired or only at a serious pay reduction.) Not sure when or if we'll return. This place has less of a loyal customer base than any other place we play.
Always a friendly crowd at this local brew pub and grill. Tried out our newly imagined set list song selection. This will insure we play a different group of songs each gig. We can only fit 12 songs in each hour and we have over 130 on our set list, so hopefully this will keep songs fresh for our audience and the music tight for us.
This was our first appearance at this trendy new bar/restaurant. The atmosphere was cosmopolitan yet warm and friendly. Management and staff were both generous in every way imaginable. Sure hope we get asked back. P.S. We did three days later.
Another wonderful evening at North this happening local establishment. I tried their fish and chips before we played and it was very tasty. The crowd was warm and heart-warming in their generous applause after every song, all night long.
Private Christmas Party for a Commercial Real Estate Management Firm's clients. Very small private room, bet we made it work to everyone's satisfaction by not using our P.A. It was intimate and fun because it was. All the guests could easily hold conversations and we were able to still be heard by all. We received a couple of additional job offers, so Merry Christmas.
Not every club owner gets it when it comes to music, but Steve does. Consequently, every thing runs smooth for him and us. The volume was perfect for dining. We even had napkin passed up to us saying "Thank you for playing at the perfect volume. I wish more groups emulated you guys."
Usually we have to bring our own P.A. to gigs, but Lincoln Station has their own, which makes setup very fast indeed. Better yet, Mario ran the board for us, tweaking the sound all night. Not all sound engineers are created equal however. Mario was amazing. Everyone in the audience commeted on how great we sounded - "better than ever." Those compliments were all Mario's credit.
Standing Room Only - Great Evening.
Busy venue, but the patio was privatly setup on the lower patio. Google employees from around the country (one guy was from Brazil). Enthusiastic bunch. Requested tunes and artists that we were only too happy to play. They were having so much fun they asked us to play an extra hour. Also only too happy to oblige.
Unusual wedding, but very cool because of the setting. The wedding was held at a horse riding stable. Ceremony in a grassy pasture area. Picnic tables in the central corral for dinner. We set up on a side alcove area under trees and stringed lights. Everyone had a blast.
Last "on the patio" event for the summer. Great as always.
Super nice folks performing a valuable service to those families in need of food. We would love to do this event again next year. Ekar Farm and Community Gardens is a communal urban farm, inspired by Jewish values. They work to build community, provide experiential and environmental education, and grow sustainably produced fruits and vegetables, expanding access to those in need. Check them out at http://ekarfarm.org/
Outside on the patio. Unfortunately the summer is coming to an end, so we may not be back here until next spring. They feel a trio takes up too much room inside. Sad!
Another great time.
Thank you. It means so much to us to have so many fans, friends and family consistently show up for our gigs. I'm sure Blue Spruce appreciates it as much as we do. Full house - full of love. Life doesn't get much better.
It was fabulous to see so many fans come out for a perfect Sunday afternoon. LTGC is (as I've already said many times before) one of Colorado's great treasures to listen to live music. We'll be back on September 3rd so mark your calendar now.
When all of the staff stop what they're doing and join the guests on the dance floor to sing along to Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond you know this is what being a cover band is all about. Great times. We can't say enough good things about Red Hawks manager Pam Morphis.
Lone Tree Golf moves it's musical entertainment to Sunday afternoons this year and it certainly didn't slow down the number of guests who enjoyed our show. Playing outside on the patio during the summer is the stage God intended for every musician (at least in Colorado). July 9th at 4:00 pm will mark our return. Don'w miss it.
What a great Friday. The sun was shining as it set the patio shade made the temperature perfect. Every table was full of appropriately rowdy guests and we all had a blast. We're going to be back here again on Satruday August 19th so stop on by.
There is nothing quite as fun and relaxing than playing in the park with burgers cooking on the grill, kids running around playing and wonderfully appreciative people listening and reacting to our music. This is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city.
What a nice play to play. The owner, Steve, was friendly, the staff efficient, the food fabulous (at least the fish andamp; chips I had were) and the venue perfect for a band like ours with an ample stage. The crowd knew what we were about and made several song requests that we were able cover. We'll be back here again as soon as Steve andamp; I can coordinate book dates.
We were honored to be a part of an all day celebration of Java Jam's second anniversay held at their new location. Packed house. Lot's of love and great music from regulars, that have been playing at Java Jam since they opened at their first location.
Weddings are full of joy and always a bit stressful. We understand the tension and love doing everything we can to dial down the stress and up the enjoyment factor for the bride and groom. We played some soft tunes for the cocktail hour. Then used the iPod full of tunes the bride selected for the dinner. The party started with the Father and Bride dance which we elevated in meaning for every one by having the daughter of the couple sit-in with us playing violin and her aunt singing lead vocal on a tune by Lady Antebellum. It took a few practices before the ceremony to get it down tight, but it was worth it. Dancing and laughter filled the rest of the afternoon. And with any luck we'll get copies of "the Cab" all dressed up to put on our website soon.
The staff at Nonna's are exceptional and perhaps as a result the patrons are really pleasant, which means that we always have a great time there. When a waitress puts money in our tip jar, it's only because everything is working for everyone.
St. Patrick's Day in an Italian Bistro, was not as strange as you might think. Good times can be had anywhere, anytime, if you want it. We did assist one beautiful, elderly lady show her Irish roots, by breaking out "Danny Boy. We had never played it before and didn't even know all the words, but that's why the Irish invented IPads and the Internet. The on-the-spot performance came out surprisingly well
A wonderful evening was had by all at Silver Vines Winery last night. Every seat was taken. We even had some fans hanging around waiting for a table to open up. The staff was so friendly, it was like you were surrounded by family. We hope to get invited back on a regular basis.
We had another spectacular evening at Java Jam. Even on a very chilly evening the place was full not long after we started.
A pre-new-years-eve-party was being had by all. I swear Nonna, knows almost everybody who walks through her door. Talk about being a gracious hostess. I asked her about it and she said, "I really want to connect with my guests, because I know without them my business would fail." Well from the looks of it, she won't be failing anytime soon. We are looking forward to coming back in March.
Fun Christmas Party. Lots of laughter. A door prize raffle every couple of songs. The below freezing weather didn't slow this group down any.
A lot of people come to Nonna's for the holidays (and a few came back because they had seen us here last time), so there was a bit of a wait for customer's to get seated tonight. Not really an issue because that just meant that they got to hang out by the band while their table was being cleared and request the songs they wanted us to play. Win, win.
Back at Nonna's tonight and it looks like we will be back on a consistent basis. Both the management and the patrons are very appreciative of our sound and song selection. We learned "The Last Kiss" for Elizabeth on the staff after her requesting it during the previous gig. Boy did her eyes light up when we launched into it. We always take requests seriously.
Pat and Gwen have created a wonderful venue for musicians to share their craft. What a pleasure it is to play here.
This was our first time playing for the folks at Nonna's. Wonderful restaurant wwith exceptional entree's. It's the perfect place to enjoy your evening sharing a bottle of wine, eating some traditional and non-traditional Italian fare and listening to us play a soft, tunes where our harmonies can really shine. We hope you can make our next gig here coming this November 11th.
We closed out the summer concert series tonight. And just in time, the weather outside on the patio was turning a bit chilly. None the less about 20 brave souls stuck it out with us. See everyone at Lone Tree again next spring.
We played outside on the patio and what a beautiful night it was. Lots of old friends showed up and we made some new ones as well. Special fun dedicating a song to Lily, a sweet little girl with red hair and green eyes. Everyone found our wide variety of styles to be unexpected and cool at the same time as we went from "In The Hall Of the Mountain King", into "Smooth". Classical to Latin and a healthy dose of our well known three-part harmony hits kept the night interesting for all. I even found a new beer that I really liked.
Well the whole "Bell" family minus Cathy showed up and early enough to get front row seats this time. Banter between them and the stage kept everyone laughing. Including some new folks who were initiated into the family atmosphere during this, their first visit, to Java Jam. I don't think it will be their last.
Our first trip to Red Hawk. Beautiful course and view from the patio we played on. Unfortunately just before we started the wind came up and blew in some rain. Not much of an issue, because the patio is completely covered and the roll-down canvas walls keep the elements at bay. Had a great time, especially when a bunch of folks jumped to to line dance while we played "Follow Me" by Uncle Kracker.
Playing outside on a patio in Colorado is about as good as it gets. Once again it's hard to choose whether the staff or the crowd are nicer to us at Lone Tree. Love this place. Quite a few kids here tonight. It's just a great family atmosphere.
Another nice evening at the Blue Spruce. Made some new friends.
Wonderful evening on the patio. Weather was perfect. Patrons were laughing, dancing, listening but mostly just relaxing. The staff was very responsive. The food was satisfying. The local brews and spirits were abundant and varied. Games of Giant Jenga and Cornhole were played while we played. We were honored to hear requests for songs we cover that have become favorites.
Always a thrill playing here. Love playing outdoors, when the weather cooperates - and it did. The staff are some the best, keeping the guests happy and well hydrated and fed. We love the youngsters that accompany their parents or grandparents. The older ones sing along and the younger ones dance. Just plain fun.
4th of July weekend. Any holiday weekend can been boom or bust for a club, because there are so many options availabe for patrons. On Independence Day weekend, backyard BBQs and trips to the mountains along with big events like fireworks shows often take the attention. We heartfully thank those fans who made it to the show and look forward to seeing more of you again at our upcoming shows.
Few things are more enjoyable than playing music in a park, with hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, neighbors talking and kidding running around. The weather was great and the vibe full of love and friendship. We hope to do this one again next year.
This was our first visit to Two Penguins and what a great time we had. Packed house inside (where we setup) and outside on the patio. Plus there was a private party in an adjoining room. Once again we had (at least) four drummer in the house and you all know we don't have a drummer in Call Us A Cab. Three of them were friends/bandmates of Dave and one an drummer friend/bandmate of mine and Ron's. The beer here was mighty fine. My hamburger excellent and the crowd responsive to our wide range of material. Zach the owner said we were perfect (not as overbearingly loud for the audience and many of his previous acts have been.) And he loved our variety. We'll be adding another date or two there soon, so check out the calendar.
Playing on the golf course patio just keeps getting better and better. Friday nights were going so well last summer that they enlarged the patio to seat @50 more people (my guess). And just like last year, every table was full by the time we started playing. And what an appreciative group is was too. We'll be back three more evenings this season, but you can't go wrong any night you visit Lone Tree Golf.
Great time last night. A bit of dancing. A bit of hula hooping. A wonderful meal, and some fine brew. The staff is dedicated to customer satisfaction and it shows. We hope to be back again soon.
First gig after Mike's knee surgery. It felt great. Java Jam has completed the enlargement and renovation with spectacular results. More room on stage and a better house system, so we didn't need to bring our own PA. We can't thank everyone who came out to see us enough. There was standing room only for a good poption of the evening.
BBD just started having music on Saturdays, (we usually play on Fridays.) It worked out great for us, not having to battle the Friday afternoon traffic jam to get there in time and great for them (a full house). About half of it was their regulars and half our fans.
This place just keeps getting better. They've started construction on the new expansion (not that you can see it yet.) They will build it out before knocking down the final wall. It's going to be great. More seating. Larger stage. And a dance floor. Last night saw many new fans, some old friends and quite a few friends who haven't seen us before. Odd thing happened one the last song of the first set. When I opened my mouth to sing "Pride And Joy" by Stevie Ray Vaughn my voice decided to sound like an old blues man whose drank way too much wiskey and smoked three packs a day. Sound cool on this song, but most definately had to improve dramatically before we started the next set. Erlin Leonard, a good friend, from the audience gave me one of those big cinnamon read hot jaw breakers. She swore it would do the trick. and she was right, except I forgot to spit it out and during the first song of the next set I almost swallowed what was left and choked. I'm always looking for some way to improve our stage theatrics. :-) P.S. We'l be back here on March 19th, so check us out on the new stage.
Amazing new venue. The place was packed all night. We had a blast and so did everyone else. When we arrived several families were enjoying their evening meal. By the end of the night it was mostly adults. Several things make this place a great spot for Call Us A Cab. First, and most selfishly, Blue Spruce is only about a mile from my house, so it's pretty darn convenient for me and my neighbors (several of whom came to see what new tunes we've learned since they last saw us). Secondly this is a family place. So those 30 to 40 somethings with kids (like my kids) can bring the underage ones with them, get a brew, give the kids a coke and still listen to some good music or watch one of many TVs (showing the Cincinnati/Pittsburg playoff game while we were there.) Third (and this is a big deal to us old farts), the band quits at 9:30. You can go out, have a good time and be home in bed sooner than your neighbor who went to see the latest movie at the theater. Plus did I mention this is a brewing company - and a fine one at that. If you didn't make it last night, we hope you'll come to see us next time we're here. You'll love it.
Several folks from the Meetup.org group showed up. It's so nice to meet new friends and chat with them about acoustic music and what it means to them. As always we had dinner here before we played. We always show up plenty early so wedon't have to rush through it because every bite is always worth savoring.
Dave turned 60 and his son turned 21. Julie, wife and mother, decided they needed to celebrate. A room full of friends and relatives assembled and everyone ate, drank and were merry. We love playing these kind of events where the atmosphere is festive and laughter and conversation fills the room with love.
Halloween Party. Dave decided to call Ron "Tex" and me "Cooter" for the night, because Ron dressed up as a cowboy (something he isn't comfortable with) and I put on my Davy Crockett coonskin cap complete with tail. Dave went to a dress up party the prevous night and didnt' feel like reprising his role as "Cher." A few friend were there and we met some new ones. A couple from Australia and Croatia kept me facinated during a break and another gentleman "liked" our facebook page; something we encourage everyone to do. The acoustics at Maggie Smith's are great so it's always fun to play there.
For a change BBD was packed when we got there and it stayed that way all night long. A bunch of teachers were having an FAC and when they started to leave in walked a ton of people from Ron's work. What a great group. No wonder Ron doesn't want to quit work and go full time rock and roll. LOL.
Another wonderful night.
Great fun. Mike's daughter, Leslie, and Dave's wife, Julie, inspired a lot of dancing. We changed the lyrics on "Amie" to honor a fan "Angel" and "Jenny Jenny 867-5309" to "Julie Julie 867-5309" to honor another fan having fun with us. Lots of laughter. Several new folks took cards and asked if we play private parties. "You bet. We love private parties." Casey, the manager, asked us to come back on Halloween. We hope to see you all then if not sooner.
Always a fun time at BBD.
This is the second party we've played for Gene and Libby. Two of the nicest people (and all their friends) we've ever played for.
Wonderful outdoor venue (at least when the weather permits) which it did today. Big crowd. Great people.
BBQ, fun, games, music, all on the beach, by the lake! What's not to love? Great annual event. Here's hoping we get invited back next year too. If all the compliments were any indication, I think that will be a safe bet.
This had to be one of the most enjoyable backyard parties I've ever played at and I'm sure Ron and Dave will agree. But then what can you expect when you're playing for nice, fun-loving people who appreciate music? The ladies felt like dancing to everything. The guys loved the free flowing beer. And the kids seemed to even know the older tunes we played. Castle Rock is a bit of a drive for Ron, right at 100 miles round trip, but as usual he just heads to the gig a bit early and never complains.
Our last gig here for the season, but we were told emphatically by staff and audience that we will be back for next summer's season. Major improvements are being made on the patio expansion to make next year ever bigger and more fun for everyone. (Read MORE tables and better lighting as as start). We've been told that some of the groups this year were too loud, so we will be given even more dates next year. WE hope so, because this is a great venue.
What a wonderful night. Several surprise visits from friends we haven't seen in awhile, like John and Cindy Bell, Nancy Bell Dalton and Ian, Bruce Sanders, Peggy and Bruce Worthington, Daves mother and her longtime friend of 80 years, and Meetup.org members of "For The Love Of Acoustic Music". You know things are going well, when some young adults come in just to grab a salad-to-go and they wind up staying for a couple of hours for the music. Love, love, love the atmosphere at Java Jam.
Sad news when we arrived at BBD tonight. One of the owners, Rich Aggen, caught a staph infection in his knee replacement. Had to remove the knee and he's waiting for the bugs to leave so he can get it put back in. Not until October we hear. Ouch! Our prayers are with you buddy. On a positive note, the rest of the staff have pulled together and the evening was good, if a little sad. Having two knee replacements and a shoulder I can really empathize.
Another great night at LTGC. Tables were full by 5:00 and we don't start until 6:00.
We don't usually travel down to Colorado Springs to play, but afternoon weddings in the park for some truly wonderful people made this day a delightful exception to the rule. The weather was perfect. The BBQ was outstanding. And we even found "The Chicken Dance" on our break music iPod to keep those die-hard chicken dancers happy.
Pat and Gwen are still waiting for their liquor license to be finalized. Until that happens attendance will remain smaller than it will become. But on a positive note, it was the first "Meetup" of "For the Love of Acoustic Music", an online group of individuals interested in what else but acoustic music. Several new folks showed up, loved Java Jam (and us).
What a wonderful night. Lots of laughter. Every table inside and out (on the patio where we set up) was full and then some. The weather was beautiful and you can't beat the view over the gold course.
Outdoor weddings in the foothills are always a delight and this couple, Dawn and Scott had a festive, intimate and glorious event. They found our website through a Google search and had their wedding planner contact us. Thank you Veronica Davis at Mile High Celebrations, 720-252-8958, www.milehighcelebrations.com for your amazing coordination and making our job so easy.
Rick Aggen, the owner of BBD is a class act. Always makes a point of telling us how much he, his staff and his crowd appreciate us. this evening we broke our "no sitting in with the band" policy and let "Teach" sing "Crazy love" by Van Morrison. He didn't actually ask to, but we were talking and he said how he loved singing karoke so we invited him up.
This is always a fun place to play. Adding to Maggie Smith's regular crowd on this Memorial Weekend, a bunch of our friends showed up to help us all celebrate, including Jane Lemmers, a wonderful guitarist/vocalist you should check out.
We opted to use our own PA last night rather than the house system. Doing so reinforced our belief that this is the best sounding room we play in. When the quality of what we hear coming back is great, it is so much easier to blend voices and control volume levels during a song. Nuance becomes a integral part of every song. Plus I can't stress how much Pat and Gwen's being entertainers themselves makes the whole experience positive. Well that and their customers, who come to listen and applaud more than we deserve.
What's more fun on a damp spring evening than enjoying a brew with a few dozen close friends? why listening to the Cab while you do it. Nice to see you all again.
Amazing Grand Opening at Java Jam's new location. Music from 10 am to 10 pm. We played to a pack house from 5 to 7. To be perfectly honest, I don't think Pat and Gwen expected such a huge crowd. They were kept very busy serving our fans trying our their new menu.
Fun as always. What else is there to say except if you haven't been here on a Friday evening, you're missing out on all that fun. See you next time (next month) we hope.
Great to be playing again after Mike's knee surgery took us out of action. AND BBD is a great place to come home to. Shaking things up, they had us set up on the opposite side of the room and it made a huge difference in our sound. The regulars said we sounded better than ever (of course it could just be that they hadn't heard us for 2 months.)
We can't say enough nice things about Danny and Betty Wang and CAUTION Brewing Company. When you walk in the door, you instantly realize this place is special. The warm, inviting and friendly atmosphere is just a preview of the love (and secret asian spices) you'll taste in their crafted beers. This night was the celebration of their ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY. Our prediction is that it is only the first of many more to come.
Great vibe going on here at Wonderland. Big crowd loved the ping pong and the brewery. Ron works pretty close to Wonderland, so a bunch of his work friends stopped by. Cool people, warm response. Dave had an old band mate to reminisce with about all things metal.
Lots of new friends showed up tonight. The laughter was flowing as freely as the special holiday brews. My favorite, "Cherry Bell." Any Friday you want to have a good time, this is a great place to start.
Full house. Everyone was in the holiday spirit. Perhaps due to the Christmas sweater contest or perhaps because of the free shots introducing Guinness Blonde American Lager to the crowd. But most likely it was because a whole bunch of friends we didn't know were coming all showed up to each others welcoming surprise. PS. Every time we play here I show up early and eat dinner. I've tried something different on the menu each time and I'm happy to report that everything has been excellent. Fish and chips last night. A light batter and moist, flaky Cod, sets Maggie Smith's ahead of their competition. I also tried Magners Original Irish Cider. What a delight.
As always, BBD is a hoot. Great people. Tons of folks came out just to see us and management recognizes that so it's a rewarding experience for all. The owner, Rich, and I always discuss our knee surgeries and now he's going in for a new shoulder, so we'll have that in common too.
Our last gig at this noble establishment, as their lease was not renewed so the building owner could scrape it for what we understand will be more medical offices around Swedish Hospital. Too bad. So sad. We wish Patrick and Gwen the very best and hope that one day they will be able to reopen anew.
Halloween was a spirited event. We were dressed as another famous trio, Peter, Paul and Mary. How did that work? Well I got T-ships printed with their famous faces and which one we were. Dave sings the really high parts in Call Us A Cab, so he got to play Mary. I dyed my white goatee a dark brown to emulate Paul. And Ron practiced being very quality oriented which was a famous trait of Peter's if you ever saw them live.
I feel a bit foolish for not having known about this annual bicycle event at the National Western Complex. But then I play music, I don't ride the Rockies. Anyway we got to perform in front of a few thousand folks who admittedly where more interesting in picking up a new light-weight wheel or storage rack than hanging around in front of the stage. And that's plenty cool with us. The vendors who had to stay in their booth's all came up and complimented us and we saw several "thumbs-up" indications from the crowd as they rounded the corner and started down the next endless row.
So what do you do when the crowd has been incredible all night - applauding every song, putting money in the tip jar, etc and they request a song you don't know and have never played before? Well if you're Mike, the right half of your brain tries to talk your way out of it as the left side of your brain orders your fingers to start experimenting with a few chords. Before 15 seconds has elapsed you launch into Cecilia by Simon and Garfunkel. Who cares if the song is mostly percussion and you don't have any. All that matters is that Ron and Dave have your back and Dave even steps in with lyrics when Mike's alzheimers kicks in. We do love those standing ovations!
Rich Pollastro was an amazing bass player that played with Mike in a band called Murphy's waL several years ago. Rich turned 65 and about 80 of his closest friends and family turned out to hoot and holler. We even convinced Rich to get up on stage, play and sing the lead on "Let the Good Times Roll." Everyone had a blast.
This was our first appearance at Maggie Smiths. Playing in an upscale venue is always a pleasure. Although this is an Irish Restaurant/Pub, they welcomed our less than Irish (except in full-on spirit) music. the food here which I enjoyed twice so far has been excellent (Shepherd's Pie and Reuben Sandwich - two of my have to try dishes.) The room is a bit divided by a large wrap around bar in the middle, but that works out well for late diners who don't what to be too close to the band, but can always join the raucousness later. We've been invited back for Halloween and hope it will be the start of a long relationship. We know our family, friends, and fans will all love this place.
Once again a magical evening. If you haven't come to Java Jam to see us, you have no idea what fun you can have in the right venue with a three guys who genuinely want to engage with the audience. We play here about once a month, so stop by soon.
My first gig since my knee surgery. It was great to play again, even if sitting that long was a bit challenging. Luckily Ron andamp; Dave are the best friends a guy could wish for and the set up up and did most of the setup and take down. The folks that were there complimented us. Unfortunately as with most fraternal organizations these days the number of members are on a steady decline, so I think we played to less than a dozen folks. We still gave them all we had and all they wanted.
Okay I'm going out on a limb here because I'm writing this post before we play the gig for two reasons. First, I'm going in for knee surgery two days after this gig and I'm not going to have time to write it before that and second I already know this is going to be a fun gig. It always is. this is one of our favorite places to play because the people are just great.
Nothing quite as enjoyable as playing an outdoor wedding in Evergreen in August.
Yet another venue where if our fans didn't show up, we would have been playing to a virtually empty house. Thank you to all our friends.
Unfortunately for us and our fans we didn't get to play tonight because management double-booked the evening. We're sorry things worked out this way - we won't be playing here again. So, on to the next fare!
The best place in town for anyone who wants to enjoy an evening listening to great music and I don't mean just when we play there. Great acoustics. Great owners.
We love playing outdoors and this was a great place to do it. The patio where we set up overlooks the golf course. Just prior to us finishing the night, you could see fireworks, not too close, but wonderful non-the-less. Excellent staff and audience. They have entertainment every Friday during the summer, so drop by. You'll be glad you did.
Sadly this restaurant doesn't appear to have any patrons (at least on a Saturday evening in June.) The room was nearly full, but only two couples were not people we had invited. I understand the expectation for a band to bring in some of their fan base, but if our fans are the entire audience, we're just helping the restaurant, they aren't helping build our following.
As always this is a fun place for us to play at. Some fans came in just because they heard we were coming back and that's always nice, but we meet some new fans as well. "Teacher" couldn't stop talking about how much he enjoyed our harmony on Bus Stop by the Hollies and Sally said she had been having an awful day until she came in and after a couple of tunes felt like she was on vacation. Thanks to the whole crowd for doing the mandatory clap of "I'll Be There For You" (the theme from Friends TV show.)
This was the annual installation of officers event. We met a lot of very nice folks and had a wonderful time. They've invited us to return on September 12th to play for their dinner during their big auto show.
The really cool thing about playing at Java Jam is that by the end of the evening everyone in the place knows everyone else's names and have formed new friendships even though they began the evening as strangers. This is beyond a doubt the best place for small acoustic acts like ours to play in town.
Thank you John and Cynthia Bell and a couple of Dave's friends from work (whose names I regretfully fail to remember this morning) for showing up to the gig. I think the threat of an early spring snow storm along with Mother's Day tomorrow kept many people away.
This new venture is a wonderful community outreach providing gently used clothing for young children. Tons of non-profit support. We expect they will succeed and were proud to be part of their first step into the Internet launch.
Full House. Good food. Great wait staff. Everyone stuck around for the full three hours. We got to meet some new folks and talk to some old friends. We were paid more than we were expecting and were invited back.
It's always fun to play here. Great vibe for an acoustic act. We met some new fans that really liked our wide mix of tunes and our volume. One couple said they just came from Platte Canyon on the other side of Santa Fe. the volume of the band over their drove them out. Happy to have them join us. They loved the fact that we played Sunny Afternoon by The Kinks. Celebrated Peggy's birthday (one of our dear friends). Got invited to play for another birthday party by someone who heard us for the first time. Finished the night playing a request for a regular sitting at the bar - Pride and Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughn.
First time ever: Java Jam offered a special "Call Us A Cabernet" wine special last night. The night was truly magical. We would like to give a special thank you to Rich Pollastro and John Bell for each bringing their friends and family to hear us. Add in a few of our own family and a crowd full of Java Jam regulars, it was standing room only. Evening highlights for me: 1. Patrick, one of the owners, graciously offered his Taylor guitar when my Martin decided to get temperamental in the third set. 2. Most of the crowd clapping right on cue to aid "Ill Be There For You" in true "Friends" fashion. 3. Everyone snapping and singing along to "King OF The Road" 4. "Fins" to the left "Fins to the right" (you have to be a Parrothead to get that one) 5. The cheer going up all over the room when I announced that Monday was going to be my last day at work. I am retiring. 6. The love in the room was sweeter than the Caramel with Sea Salt ice cream Julie fell in love with. THANK YOU ALL!
Another great evening. Changed the words to the Beach Boys classic "Help Me Rhonda" to "Help Me Cindy" in honor of a new fan. She and her husband reciprocated by booking us for a summer party being held out at their acreage outside of Brighton this July. Sang Happy Birthday to Rod, another new fan. We also had the great pleasure of connecting with a few friends who showed up that we hadn't seen in quite a while. We were graced with Ron's daughter Amber and as typical Kim and Roberta were in the cheering section. And as always the beer here is top-notch and the owners seems like brothers to everyone there. Last time we played here I fell in love with the Platinum Blonde Ale but this time I tried Lucille's Red Ale and now I'm torn. Dave just back from his vacation trip to Nashville, Memphis, Kansas City and a great Nascar race however loved their chili infused specialty brew.
Last night at The Shack was a blast. I want to give a shout out to two people in particular, Laura and Jason. Laura was sitting there all alone quietly eating her dinner just to the right of the stage when we started. At our first break I went over and introduced myself and asked how she was doing. She said, "Not very well, my Mom is in hospice." We talked a bit more and I told her I hoped our music would help lift her spirits. I'm pretty sure it did, because it wasn't long after, she called her daughter, Nicole, who came down to join her and later on they saw another friend in the Club that joined them.
Jason came in during the third set as we were playing The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars and shortly after that Man of Constant Sorrow from the Brother Where Art Thou movie. Two radically different tunes, but Jason enthusiastically applauded after both. Ya gotta love a guy with tastes as divergent as ours.
Small but appreciative audience. The owners were enthusiastic and committed to doing a better job of marketing to their existing clientele for our next visit, which was booked right after the gig. Rilee, our waitress, loved Wagon Wheel and was singing along to much of our material. A couple of folks who where in the bar area (we were playing in a separate banquet room), came in to complement us and say we were the best group they've heard since our dear friend Bob Girres passed away last year and he and Gary Reinders quit playing there.
Ron and Mike used to play here periodically when we were "Rare Heat". It sure was nice to see a positive response to our new less-intense sound. It was really cold outside, so not too many folks showed up, but we had a few folks dancing. Everyone always seems to get into "King Of The Road."
Wonderful group of people, expanding their branding of love up and down the front range. We learn a couple of Beach Boys tunes for the event and it was only appropriate since the owners name is Brian Wilson. We wish you the best and P.S. THANK YOU FOR THE BONUS.
Approximately 120 in attendance with ages ranging from young children to senior citizens. We were complimented by everyone on our equally wide range of music and that our music, although loud enough, did not prevent anyone from having a conversation with the person next to them without shouting.
We could make this place our home. Really nice people. Great food. Spectacular brew. The back room gives the band an intimate rapport with the crowd, so we felt like we were truly playing amongst friends. Everyone said our volume was perfect. They could hear our harmonies and all the little nuances we try to put into every song, but still carry on a conversation across the table without having to yell at each other. The end of the night came too soon, but we were asked back so make sure you see us here next time AND come early enough to get the Prime Rib Friday Night Special. It's to die for.
Very nice brewery with a sweet vibe. Every table was full and everybody had a great time, including us. There was a priceless moment during our rendition of the theme music from Friends that you had to witness. I'll post about it on our Facebook page. Anyway, the management claimed we far exceeded their expectations and sounded better than any of our demos on this website. They want us to book another date. Look for it soon on our calendar.
We played at Beer By Design last night. What a great time! Vince Sabbe and Rich Aggen, the proprietors, and true gentlemen. Thanks guys. We really appreciate the offer to come back. We'll book another date soon. Okay call me a wimp but I fell in love with the Platinum Blonde Ale from their Women and Beer Series. And Carlos truly offers up the best Polish Dog I've ever tasted. His food is only exceeded by his warm instant friendship. Oh we'll return. You can count on it. P.S. Jillian You made the night for me. You have to set in the front row and give me someone to banter with from now on.
Last minute cancellation. ASCAP is giving the restaurant's management grief about having live music, so the Hurricane felt compelled to cancel all future live entertainment beginning tonight when we showed up to set up. With that said, I have to say Mike Garcia was the most gracious club owner I've dealt with in a mighty long time. I still remember once driving from Colorado down to Arkansas for a two week gig and that club owner literally said, "Boys my tomato crop didn't come in at the farm so you can play two weeks for the same price I promised you for one week, or you can turn around right now and go home. Sue me if you don't like it." Mike Garcia on the other hand apologized until it was almost embarrassing, paid us in full for not playing and even bought us dinner and drinks. Mike, you and the Hurricane have my respect and I'll continue to recommend our fans visit you for some of the best wings in the world.
This was a very fun gig for us. Intimate place that serves amazing chai. We passed out copies of our complete set list and then just played any tune on the list as the requests came in. The crowd got to hear exactly what they wanted and we got to find out which of our tunes were most popular. Talk about useful data collection! One of the best memories of last night though was hearing Dave's (2-year-old?) grandson Wyatt cheering and clapping at the end of every song. Dave's Mom ( a truly beautiful lady) was there too and paid us some very nice compliments. Nice to know that our music touches all age groups.
Thought I'd share a little bit about last night's gig at the Hurricane: Bitter cold night, but warm inside. Hurricane's staff is one of the friendliest we've witnessed. Had several people come back specifically because they were here for a late supper and stuck around to hear us play two weeks ago. One quote: "I can't tell you how long it's been since we heard a band where we know EVERY song they play. Even my son has been singing a song around the house he heard you play since then. We had to come back!" And we're mighty glad they did. Plus I promised a new fan from two weeks ago a "Call Us A Cab" t-shirt if she came back with some friends this week. She got her shirt. Thank you all so much.
What a great place. The food is phenomenal. The wait staff friendly AND efficient. The was a huge crowd with a line waiting for a table when we got there to set up, but the wait wasn't even close to being as long as everyone expected. We had about twenty friend mixed in with the crowd, and the staff were really stoked to have us there. A quick note, over the years most musicians have found themselves groups that have broken up for one reason or another. The guys in Call Us A Cab aren't any different, except that we haven't burnt too many bridges in the process. I want to thank Rick Pickett (currently playing bass with Willie andamp; the Po'Boys) for turning us onto the Hurricane. His group is a great dance band, but that isn't the type of place the Hurricane is, so Rick called me with the lead. Thank you Rick. Also it was great to see Rich Polastro another bass player from the past. I had the chance to introduce them to each other right as we we're going on stage for our second set. The talked for quite awhile (probably about my bald head - your day is coming guys - mine just started early. Anyway we'll be back at the Hurricane in two weeks. We can't wait.
Friends and family - there isn't a better gig for any band. Loads of love, food, and good times shared. Joanne turned 40, blew out the candle on her cake and then informed us the bar owner would like us to come back. Nice.
Our first experience playing in a business office. WE don't take up much room, so that worked out well. And we can keep our volume down low enough so all the business schmoozing could be carried on without anyone trying to yell over the top of us. We got a ton of compliments and a couple of upcoming gigs promised, so all in all we would love to do it again. Wonderful people at First American.

More than 250 people showed up to honor our dear friend who past away from cancer recently. Each of 3 groups comprised of friends and musicians who had been in bands with bob over the past 30 years played for 30 minutes. then we watched a great video of select video clips of Bob performing. Then 8 members from the groups all joined together on stage for an hour long set. Everyone danced and wanted more. We shall miss Bob.

Amazing gig. Ton's of new folks from the festival as well as family and friends. Gave away some T-Shirts. The kids had a blast and so did we. We got a lot of compliments on our song selection and volume. We think it makes a difference when you play songs people know and at a volume that doesn't destroy their hearing. We'll definitely be coming back.

Once again we were on the Groove Auto stage. A special thank you goes out to Cody Nelson from Groove and Mario Reid from Manjia Bevi Cafe for giving us this opportunity to play for @18,000 Paisley fans as they entered the venue. The day was a bit windy at 4:30 when we started but calmed down before the headliners came on.

Fabulous Day, lots of fun for both the kids and the adults. We played on the GrooveAuto stage and gave away Call Us A Cab T-Shirts to anyone who answered our "You can call us a cab" shout out with "Okay you're a cab!"

We we proud to do our part in this Relay For Life walk-a-thon that benefited The American Cancer Society and raised over $25,000.
After enjoying a wonderful meal and some great conversation, we set up on Dave and Julie's newly remodeled back patio and performed for Matt's family and friends in celebration of his high school graduation. Matt is looking forward to pursuing a career with his own music as a hip hop artist. We wish him the best.
